Governor Markell has lifted the State of Emergency and Level 1 Driving Warning throughout Delaware.

Markell also paid tribute to the men and women working, sometimes around the clock, to keep our roads safe.

WDEL's Carl Kanefsky has the story.

The governor was in no hurry to lift the Level One driving warning that went into effect early Monday morning, saying he didn't want to do it, until he was confident that it was safe for people to be on the roads.

Markell said DelDOT employees have gone above and beyond this winter, and he appreciates their efforts.

"Their spirits are good," Markell said. "Especially considering this winter, they've been hammered. They've been out night after night, and they come in when everyone else is sleeping, and they've got to be exhausted. And I think frankly they're sick of it, but you wouldn't know, because they say, 'this is what we do.'"

Markell says DelDOT will do it's job clearing the snow from the roads, but the very low temperatures we'll see through the early part of the week, could make for dangerous, icy conditions.

"People should always be cautious," Markell said, "but particularly at a time when you're talking about temperatures well below freezing...you never know what you're going to hit down there."

DelDOT does have plenty of salt to keep the state's roads treated, and says with a new shipment scheduled to arrive within the week, the state could begin looking at sharing some of its supply with the city of Newark, and area hospitals that have made requests.
