A Dover man was charged with child abuse after he allegedly used a belt to strike a one-year-old boy.

Officers were called to the 100 block of Lakeview Drive about 1:15 p.m. Saturday for a report of child abuse.

An investigation showed Marcus Miller, 22, struck his son with a belt numerous times, causing substantial pain, bruising and swelling on the child's back, police said.

Miller was arrested and charged with second degree assault, second-degree child abuse, and endangering the welfare of a child, police said. He was committed to the Vaughn Correctional Center in lieu of $11,000 bail.
