A motorcyclist is dead after a chase with Bridgeville police.

State police say an officer tried to stop Melvin DeShields of Greenwood from speeding on Sussex Highway at 2:20 a.m. Saturday, but they say DeShields sped away from police, refusing to pull over.

Police say DeShields lost control of his bike on a curve on Redden Road, and he was thrown from the motorcycle. Police say he wasn't wearing a helmet.

DeShields was later pronounced dead at Christiana Hospital.

An investigation into the crash continues.
