Delaware newest Supreme Court Justice is confirmed by the state Senate.

Karen Valihura will be sworn in sometime in the next month.

The long-time corporate law practitioner was Governor Markell's nominee to fill the vacancy created when Justice Jack Jacobs retired earlier this week.

Jacobs' retirement followed the retirement of Supreme Court Chief Justice Myron Steele, who was replaced by Leo Strine.

Earlier this month, to the surprise of many, Supreme Court Justice Carolyn Berger announced she would also retire. Berger said she would step down in September because Markell did not take her application for Chief Justice seriously.
