Rocks' Sparkman named CL Pitcher of the Week
By Sean Greene

Flirting with a no-hitter on the 4th of July has led Blue Rocks starter Glenn Sparkman to be named the Carolina League Pitcher of the Week.

Sparkman's eighth start since moving from the bullpen to the starting rotation was sparkling, as he tossed 6 1/3 no-hit innings before finally giving up a single to Winston-Salem's Joey DeMichele with one out in the 7th. That would be the only hit allowed in a season-high seven-inning outing.

Wilmington improved to 7-1 in Sparkman's eight starts, as he is 2-1 with a 1.13 ERA since switching roles. His only loss came in one of the Lynchburg back-to-back no-hitters of Wilmington last month.
