The last day of filing for statewide office has also created some other races.

Republican Rose Izzo has filed to run against Congressman John Carney for his U.S. House Seat. Libertarian candidate Scott Gesty of Arden is also running for U.S. House.

For U.S. Senate, businessman Kevin Wade has filed as a Republican in an attempt to unseat Senator Chris Coons. Wade lost in 2012 when he ran against longtime Senator Tom Carper. He dropped out of the 2010 U.S. congressional race after losing a party endorsement to Michele Rollins.

Carl Smink of Milton has also filed as a Republican challenger. Smink was born and raised in New Jersey, but retired in Delaware. He spent more than two decades in the Air Force, according to his campaign website.

Wade and Smink will square off in the state primary September 9 with the winner going head-to-head against Coons.

The Green Party is putting up Andrew Groff for U.S. Senate, Bernard August for U.S. House, and David Chandler for state treasurer.
