Wilmington police want to know who's responsible for causing thousands of dollars in damage at a local cemetery.

More than 70 tombstones, and 10 large obelisks were toppled at the Riverview Cemetery in Wilmington earlier this week.

Board member Kate Wilhere tells NBC 10, the damage is severe, and almost impossible to comprehend.

"It's devastation. It's very, very hard to understand how this made sense for anybody or a group of people to do," Wilhere. "You just don't understand they thought this was a good idea to do."

Cemetery officials believe the vandalism took place Tuesday or Wednesday, and have estimated the damages between $15,000 and $20,000.
