A 67-year-old woman was killed Friday afternoon when she was hit by a minivan near New Castle.

The crash happened at 12:35 p.m. Friday in the northbound lanes of South DuPont Highway just north of the split with Rte. 40.

Joanne Johnson of New Castle tried to cross the roadway outside of a crosswalk, but was hit by a 2003 Honda Odyssey.

Paramedics pronounced Johnson dead at the scene. The driver and her two children, who were properly restrained inside the minivan, were not hurt.

The two left lanes of the northbound U.S. 13 were closed for about two hours while police investigated.

No charges have been filed.
