By Peter MacArthur 11:38am, January 17, 2013Wilmington is getting a visit from royalty come May.
The King and Queen of Sweden and the Speaker of the Parliament in Finland will be in town May 11th to commemorate the 375th anniversary of the establishment of the New Sweden Colony...which is now Wilmington.
Ceremonies will take place at Fort Christina State Park. The dignitaries will arrive on the Kalmar Nyckel and will be met by Governor Markell.
There will also be a ground breaking for a state sponsored archaeological dig to find the original Fort Christina dating back to 1638.
The anniversary is also being marked with three public lectures from the Kalmar Nyckel Foundation this month at the Chase Center.
