A strong first half performance from junior Meaghan Doogan helped give #17 Concord a 62-51 first-round win over #16 Hodgson in the DIAA Girls Basketball state tournament.

Hodgson held an early 13-8 lead after the 1st Quarter after getting an early boost from Tierra Johnson's seven points in the opening period.

Doogan helped keep her team within striking distance though, scoring all of Concord's eight points in the 1st Quarter.

She carried that momentum into 2nd Quarter, when she scored 15 points--7 on free throws, to give her 23 points at the end of the first half.

Hodgson would keep the score close and trailed by only two points heading into halftime.

The Raiders pulled ahead in the 3rd Quarter with more balanced scoring. Nisa Pulliam and Emily Panchak chipped in 5 points apiece, while Taylor Azer contributed a three-pointer to help give Concord a 44-37 lead heading into the final period.

However, Hodgson would try to close the deficit--Brianna Flemmings scored six points in the 4th Quarter and would finish the night with 14. Despite getting within a possession of tying or taking the lead, the Raiders didn't relinquish the lead.

Concord was able to offset the comeback attempt with seven points from Azer and seven from Pulliam as they held on for the 62-51 win.

The Raiders will travel to Wilmington Friday night to play #1 St. Elizabeth at 7:00 p.m.
