By Sean Greene 1:23am, April 11, 2013Carolina scored six runs in the 5th inning to break open a tie game and spark a 12-1 victory over Wilmington in the Blue Rocks season-opening road trip finale.
Aaron Brooks allowed one run through the first four innings for Wilmington, but Francisco Lindor tripled with one out to start the fifth inning rally which was followed by a Tony Wolters RBI single to take the lead, and then back-to-back singles by Jordan Smith and Joey Wendle which loaded the bases and chased Brooks.
Reliever Kellen Moen walked in a run before Bryson Myles' 2-run double made it 5-1. An error brought in another run, and then a single plated one more to make it 7-1, and the rout was on.
Wilmington's only run came in the 4th on a Justin Trapp RBI single which tied the game at 1 at the time.
Brooks was charged for 5 runs and 10 hits in picking up his first loss of the season.
The loss snapped a 3-game winning streak for the Rocks, who open their home schedule Friday at 7:05 against Frederick at Frawley Stadium.
