One run proves enough for Blue Rocks

Kenny Diekroeger's 8th inning RBI single proved the difference as the Blue Rocks edged past Lynchburg 1-0 on the road Friday night.

Wilmington was being no-hit going into the 8th inning when Geulin Beltre broke up the bid with an RBI single off of Hillcats' reliever Ronan Pacheco. Lane Adams came in to pinch-run for Beltre, and after a sacrifice bunt moved him to second, Adams scored on Diekroeger's base hit for the only run of the game.

Both offenses struggled to get just 3 hits and 2 walks each off of the opposing pitching staffs.

Lynchburg starter left the game following 6 innings of no-hit baseball where he walked just one and struck out 8, but earned a no-decision for his gem.

Wilmington's Aaron Brooks nearly matched him pitch-for-pitch, giving up just two hits and walking one in his six innings, but the win ended up going to reliever Spencer Patton (3-0) who pitched three scoreless innings.

The teams continue the series Saturday night at 6:05.
