Five shootings in three days

Forget about a heat wave, how about a crime wave? There have been five shootings across the city of Wilmington since Friday.

Locations where the crimes took place include the 800 block of Vandever Ave., the 100 block of East 24th Street, the 300 block of North Clayton Street and the 600 block of West 27th Street.

No deaths are being reported.

Multiple investigations are being conducted.

Sunday shooting
Wilmington police say an argument led to gunfire Sunday afternoon.

Officers say after a 9-1-1 call, they found the victim walking on the 600 block of North Clayton Street, three blocks away from where the shooting took place.

Police say the victim was arguing with the suspect, when the suspect pulled out a handgun and shot the victim in the leg.

The 30-year-old male victim was treated and released from Wilmington Hospital.

The suspect is described as a black male in his 20's, about five-foot-three to five-foot-five, weighing 130 to 150 pounds.

Saturday shootings

A 22-year-old man was shot early Saturday morning in the 100 block of E. 24th Street.

Police were called to the scene shortly after 3:30am.

The victim was shot several times in the abdomen, arm, and hand.

Police say an unknown man approached the victim and began shooting. Police say the victim is a convicted felon.

The victim is in critical condition at Christiana Hospital.

Wilmington Police are investigating a Saturday night shooting which left a young man in the hospital.

Officers say they were called to the 600 block of West 27th Street at 9:38 p.m. where they found the 23-year-old victim.

The victim was transported to Christiana Hospital with gunshot wounds to his cheek, ankle and thigh.

Police say the victim is a convicted felon and was not cooperative with their investigation.

He is listed in serious but stable condition.

Friday shootings

Wilmington Police are investigating two weekend shootings.

The first happened Friday night around 9:15 on the 800-block of Vandever Avenue.

Officers found a 22-year-old man with a gunshot injury to his rear.

They say the victim was standing along that stretch of Vandever when he heard gunshots and one of the bullets struck him.

He in stable condition at Christiana Hospital. WPD points out the victim is a convicted drug offender.

Police are looking for two men in connection with the shooting: One suspect, described as black, 5-foot-8, with a stocky build, wearing a brown shirt and khaki shorts at the time; the second suspect, black, about six feet tall, wearing red-striped, black shorts and a dark shirt.

Wilmington Police are also looking into a shooting Friday night in the first block of East 24th Street.

City cops got a 9-1-1 call shortly after 10pm.

They found a 25-year-old man in the street with several gunshot wounds to his back and right thigh.

The victim - a convicted drug-offender - taken to Christiana Hospital, and listed as stable.

Police say the victim appeared to be standing in the first block of East 24th Street when a man approached him and displayed a gun. The two struggled, and the other man shot the victim.
