Middletown overcame a sluggish opening quarter on 'Beat the Beast' night to defeat Delcastle 42-0 at Cavaliers Stadium Friday.

Following a pre-game ceremony where the Cavaliers honored those who been affected by cancer by wearing pink jerseys that will be auctioned off, the hosts struggled. They went 3-and-out on their one full drive in the quarter, while watching the Cougars (1-4) go on two long drives.

The second possession for Delcastle featured an apparent 35-yard touchdown pass from Ahmere Dorsey to Briayer Price, but it was called back on a hold. The drive eventually ended on an interception by Dennis Berger.

Middletown would go 3-and-out following the turnover, but despite it being 4th-and-5 at their own 11 to start the 2nd quarter, Coach Mark DelPercio called for a fake punt, and it turned into the opening score on a bomb from punter, and all-state quarterback, Darius Wade to gunner, and all-state wide receiver, Chris Godwin for 89 yards.

The Cavs would score on their remaining four drives of the half, with Wade connecting with Dennis Berger and Garrett Maniatis with touchdown passes, while James Reed and Jacob Bricker each scored on the ground for a 34-0 lead at intermission.

Middletown finished the scoring in the 3rd quarter with a 62-yard pass from Anthony DelPercio to Elisha Sewell, and then a safety on a bobbled punt snap by Delcastle.

The Cavs improved to 5-0, while Delcastle dropped to 1-4.
