St. Mark's Abbie Mirabella and Peyton Reno combined for 44 kills as the Spartans defeated A.I. duPont 3-1 in volleyball Tuesday night.

Mirabella took to the service line late in the opening set, and included an ace in a run of five straight points which ended with a 25-19 victory for her Spartans.

The second set went back and forth with seven ties. No team managed to open up more than a three point advantage, but Reno's back row kill was just enough for a 25-22 Spartan victory.

St. Mark's won the first two point of the third set, and led 7-6 after a Mirabella kill before A.I. slowly turned the side thanks to a 5-1 run. Courtney MacDonald had four kills, including one on set point, as the Tigers stayed alive with a 25-20 victory.

The Spartans (10-1) won four of the last five points of that set, then jumped ahead quickly 7-2 in the 4th set before A.I. cut the score to 10-9.

The Tigers (8-3) twice cut the deficit to one before a 7-2 run put St. Mark's ahead 17-11 after a Mirabella kill, and St. Mark's held the lead there. Reno spiked home the last three points for St. Mark's.

Mirabella finished with 26 kills and 21 digs, while Reno added 18 kills and 21 digs. Claudia Seemans contributed 52 assists and 22 digs.

Courtney MacDonald led A.I. with 20 kills while Sydney Macdonald had a team-high 18 digs.
