By Associated Press 3:33pm, November 1, 2013A Pennsylvania woman has pleaded guilty to filing false claims and mail fraud in a conspiracy in which stolen identities were used to file false federal tax returns.
Forty-one-year-old Stephanie Patterson of Royersford entered the plea Friday in federal court in Wilmington. She faces a maximum of 20 years in prison at sentencing in March.
According to court documents, Patterson took part in a plot involving the filing of more than 180 false individual federal income tax returns. The returns sought refunds of more than $1.8 million.
Prosecutors say Patterson gave names and social security numbers to another co-conspirator, who used the information to file the fraudulent returns.
