St. Georges defeats Caravel in the final minute

St. Georges trailed Caravel by three with 1:13 left on the clock, but Hawks' quarterback Zach Wright found Jiare Hicks on the outside to score a 48 yard game-winning touchdown to lift St. Georges to a 27-23 come-from-behind victory.

In the opening quarter, Caravel's Aaron Hudson received a 17 yard touchdown pass from Derrick Groomes. The extra point was good to put the Buccaneers on top first. Less than a minute later, St. Georges' Taaron Selby answered the Bucs with a 35 yard rushing touchdown. After the kick was good, the score was knotted at seven a piece until the third quarter.

After the half, Hudson pushed Caravel ahead 14-7 when he scored his second touchdown of the game.

With four minutes left in the third, a personal foul occurred in the end zone against St. Georges that resulted in a safety. Bucs led 16-7. Before the final quarter, Caravel scored once more with a T. Jacob Shriner rushing touchdown up the middle.

The Hawks trailed 23-7, but Selby opened the fourth with a 46 yard rushing touchdown. The two point conversion failed, but Selby scored his third touchdown of the game a few minutes later. He caught a 62 yard pass from Wright to bring the Hawks within three. Caravel led 23-20.

Hicks then sealed the game with the final score, and St. Georges outscored Caravel 20-0 in the final quarter.

The Hawks improved to 8-1, while the Buccaneers fell to 6-3. The last regular season games for both Division II teams is next week. St. Georges travels to McKean on Friday night, and Caravel travels to Mount Pleasant on Saturday morning.
