By Sean Greene 4:48pm, November 26, 2013The two DIAA Championship Football games Saturday at Delaware Stadium will be a single-admission doubleheader.
A single $8 ticket to either Division II's battle between St. Georges and Hodgson or Division I's tilt between Middletown and Salesianum will get you into the stadium for either game. If you leave the Stadium for any reason, you will need to purchase a new ticket to re-enter.
Due to a University of Delaware men's basketball game against Robert Morris which tips at Noon Saturday, fans for the Division II game are asked to arrive between 1:15 and 1:45. The earlier the better if you need to secure a ticket.
Kickoff for the Division II game is 2pm, with the Division I game scheduled to start at 6pm. It will start no earlier than 6pm, but could start later if the teams are not able to fit in a 40-minute warm-up period on Tubby Raymond Field.
The top seeds (Middletown and St. Georges) have been assigned to the bleachers on the South College Avenue side of the stadium, with Salesianum and Hodgson fans asked to use the opposite side. There will be no seating in the end zones.
DIAA also advises fans that all paved lots around the Stadium will be open and free, they have been told by UD that tailgating and alcoholic beverages are prohibited. Also, fans are strongly urged to remain off the field following the game.
This is the first time the Delaware High School football championships have been held at Delaware Stadium since 1974, when damage to the hedges which ring the field helped the University of Delaware decide to not welcome the state championship back to UD.
DIAA Executive Director Kevin Charles credited UD Athletic Director Eric Ziady for his interest in hosting state championships as a big reason the title games were moved from DelState to Newark.
