(Courtesy: St. Elizabeth)St. Elizabeth has named alum Joe Papili as its new Athletic Director.
Papili is currently serving as U.S. Marshall for the District of Delaware, and will begin his duties on April 7, 2014.
He graduated from St. Elizabeth in 1979 after playing football, basketball, and baseball.
In a statement, Papili said, "I am very anxious to get started at my new position and return to my roots at St. E, where the foundation of my career was developed. I am glad to have the opportunity to come back and carry on the great legacy of St. E."
Papili will replace Joe Hemphill, who has been the AD at the Catholic school for the past 42 years.
Principal Shirley Bounds says Papili's background will help him in his new position.
"Like Coach Hemphill, he is a product of both schools and a Viking athlete who was coached, directed and mentored by Coach Hemphill. His background brings together a strong foundation built at St. Elizabeth with the richness of real world experience. Once again, St. Elizabeth is fortunate to have a dedicated community leader who will continue the legacy of competitive, successful teams and coaches who represent the St. Elizabeth Maroon & Gold with faith, sportsmanship and character."
