Archmere's Katelyn Payne scored 8 of her 17 points in overtime as the Auks rallied for a 45-42 victory at St. Elizabeth Tuesday night.

The visitors trailed 35-31 with 49.8 seconds to go in regulation after a free throw by St. Elizabeth's Macy Robinson.

Rebecca Peet earned a trip to the free throw line 7 seconds later and after making the first, she missed the second, only to have the carom corralled by teammate Amanda Olson.

Olson ended up with the basketball on the right baseline and drained a 10-foot shot while drawing contact to make it a one-point game, which she tied at 35 with the subsequent free throw.

Archmere would quickly stretch their regulation-ending 4-0 run to 9-0 as Payne drove into the lane for the opening basket of the extra session, and then forced a steal and turned that into a conventional 3-point play to make it 40-35.

Alex Thomas and Robinson each hit baskets for St. Elizabeth to bring the game to 40-39 with 1:30 to go before a series of struggles at the free throw line for both teams brought the game to 41-40 after the teams combined to miss 6 of 8 shots. It was Olsen again converting off a missed free throw that put Archmere up 42-40.

Jordyn Humes then drove through the Auks' defense with 18.3 seconds remaining to make the game 43-42.

Two more missed free throws by Archmere followed, but the hosts could not get a shot to fall with 6 seconds remaining and were forced to foul Payne.

Payne, a senior, went 1-for-4 from the line in regulation, but calmly sank both attempts in a critical moment to make it a 45-42 game.

St. Elizabeth (11-4) drove the lane, but the last shot came up short, and the Auks (11-4) celebrated their 5th straight victory.

Olsen finished with 16 for Archmere, while Thomas led all scorers with 18 for St. Elizabeth.
