A letter sent to parents in the Brandywine School District said it's unclear whether students will need to make up any snow days because some missed time can be waived by state officials.

Superintendent Mark Holodick said in the message that the district builds extra hours into its calendar to account for bad weather.

Additionally, the state education department and board can also forgive some missed time, but Holodick told parents that requests from school districts won't be made until April at the earliest, following the conclusion of snow season.

The superintendent also presented a worst-case scenario based on current snow day allotment under the assumption that no missed time would be forgiven:

Holodick expressed frustration with the "unusually large number of snow days" taken this school year.

He said more snow days might be taken as the winter season continues and potential storms could force administrators to cancel classes out of concern for public safety.
