By Tom Lehman 10:53pm, March 2, 2014 - Updated 1:35pm, March 3, 2014Wilmington Mayor Dennis Williams has ordered city offices closed on Monday in anticipation of snowfall from the latest winter storm.
The measure is intended to keep drivers off the roads and allow the public works department to safely plow and salt city roadways.
Williams said staff and vehicles from the parks and recreation department will also help clear city streets throughout the day.
"Parks and recreation generally has some equipment they use to clean the parks out, but we tried something different last snow. We put them with public works and it works pretty well," Williams said.
Essential personnel are still required to report for duty, but the mayor encouraged residents to avoid driving unless necessary.
"Stay home if you don't have to go out because their safety is paramount to us," he said. "Just give us an opportunity to and time to clear the streets off."
Offices will reopen Tuesday.
