By Tom Lehman 5:50pm, March 3, 2014 - Updated 11:04pm, March 4, 2014Wilmington police are temporarily waiving enforcement of an ordinance that prohibits residents from using cones or other objects to hold street-side parking spots they cleared from the snow.
In light of snowfall on Monday, police won't enforce or cite residents for placing items in the street to hold spaces for parking.
Although the practice is illegal, many residents consider using a cone or lawn furniture to block off a parking spot as a courtesy for those who have spent time clearing a parking space.
Enforcement of the rule can be waived at the police chief's discretion following significant snowfall or when large events such as St. Anthony's Italian Festival occur in Wilmington.
