By Mellany Armstrong 11:42am, April 16, 2014Wawa is celebrating its 50th anniversary.
WDEL's Mellany Armstrong reports.
Delaware is home to 39 Wawa stores, and President and CEO Chris Gheysens is thanking customers for helping Wawa reach this anniversary milestone.
"Northern Delaware and New Castle County and even southern Delaware, they are some of our best stores in our whole chain," he said.
And he has a gift for you - free coffee.
"We expect to give away over a million cups of free Wawa coffee today, it's just a small way to say thanks," he said.
Gheysens says they are working on mobile and loyalty apps that will help you get your coffee faster in the future.
"You'll be able to pay like you could at a Starbucks, or eventually be able to order remotely and pick up to try to speed the experience, the whole Wawa food experience, then we're also going to have a loyalty program associated with that," he said.
Gheysens' favorite shorti is turkey on a toasted whole wheat roll with lots of veggies, and his kids of course gotta have a Wawa.
WDEL: Do they tell Dad to bring sandwiches home every day? "Being CEO of Wawa, with four young children, I get a big list texted to me almost every night of what they want," he said.
