(Courtesy: Barry Miller/NNLL)Five Newark National pitchers combined on a three-hitter as the East Region champions defeated North Carolina 7-1 at the Junior League World Series Tuesday evening.
Newark's offense came alive in the 3rd inning, with Andrew Emory connecting on a 2-run double to centerfield, and Nate Hardcastle adding an RBI single two batters later.
A wild pitch led to a run in the 4th, and a passed ball gave Newark a run in the 6th, before Hardcastle again picked up an RBI single to left to make it 6-1.
Despite recording just one total strikeout, the pitching combination of Jeffrey Engelmann, Matt Theodorakis, Hardcastle, James Williams, and Emory kept North Carolina in check. The only run allowed was unearned.
Newark National faces 0-3 Midland, Michigan in another pool play game Wednesday at 11am.
