The 82-year-old Townsend Elementary School has a whole new look, but...

"It still has that charm. The brick siding, and out front, our walkway has kind of like a Main Street feel to it," said principal Don Davis.

He says the main hallway inside is designed like a little town center with windows peering into the hallway.

While preserving historic elements was important so was major modernization. Davis says the school is now the most technologically advanced elementary school in the Appoquinimink District.

"We have two full computer labs with 17 points for wifi, we have smartboards in every room, we have two computers in every room; we have a set of 20 iPads," he said.

Davis tells WDEL he's happy to be back at the helm after he and the students were transferred to Old State Elementary during the two-year remodel.

"There's a buzz around here, teachers are just walking around smiling," said Davis.
